Marie Ponsot alights at Perch for a singular evening of poetry.
Marie Ponsot is the author of numerous books of poetry, including
Springing (Knopf, 2002); The Bird Catcher (Knopf, 1998), winner of the
National Book Critics Circle Award; The Green Dark (Knopf, 1988);
Admit Impediment (Knopf, 1981); and True Minds (City Lights, 1957).
She also translates books from the French and is the author,
with Rosemary Dean, of Beat Not the Poor Desk, a book on teaching writing.
Among her awards are a creative writing grant from the
National Endowment for the Arts, the Modern Language Association’s
Mina P. Shaughnessy Prize, and the Phi Beta Kappa Prize.
Marie will be reading along with a small band of devotees, including
Allan Jalon, Armando Jaramillo, Connie Norgren, George Franklin,
Kerry Carnahan, Louisa Thomas, Petaluma Livelli and Wendy Blake.
*All monies raised will go to 826NYC, a Brooklyn nonprofit that offers
free writing workshops to students between the ages of 6 and 18.
Followed by the Kelsey Jillette Group
at 9pm, playing 2 sets of soulful jazz
