AMC Loews Lincoln Square Theater, Manhattan
Museum of the Moving Image will present a personal appearance by Mira Nair with a preview screening of her new film The Namesake, a richly textured adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s bestselling novel. The screening, on Wednesday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m. will be followed by a discussion with Nair moderated by David Schwartz, Chief Curator. This event will take place at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square Theater, 1998 Broadway (at 68 Street), in Mahnattan. The Namesake will open theatrically on March 23.
The film will be released by Fox Searchlight Pictures. Tickets are $18 public/$12 Museum members.
Visit www.movingimage.us to purchase online or call 718.784.4520. In one of her most vibrant and personal films, director Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, Mississippi Masala) examines the intergenerational drama within one Bengali family who seeks a new life in America. The Namesake offers a fresh look at the universal conflict between the heritage of the old world and the allure of the new. Kal Penn, best known as the comic star of Harold & Kumar, gives a revelatory performance as a young man who grows up with the multicultural name Gogol. Bollywood actors Irfan Khan and Tabu star as his parents. (2007, 117 mins., 35mm.)

This next event is sponsored by a friend mine from High School. We met 4 years ago at our High School reunion in Manhattan after not having seen each other since graduation, which was several years ago now. Evan, now in theatre presents the following:
Two Turtles Entertainment is proud to offer two tickets and a walk on role in "My Inner Mark Berman," May 3-21 at Theater For The New City, the new musical by Evan Laurence. If you happen to be in the biz and are an underground (or above ground) personality, you will surely be considered for a role as a sanitarium inmate and be featured as a guest star. This role will take you all of five minutes to prepare for, btw. If you are not an actor but would like to help us with our fundraising efforts, then please see our eBay advertisement below for an amazing opportunity!
eBay Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280083267425
The eBay auctions for the show are constantly ending. If you type in 'Off Off Broadway Gift Certificate' in the Search box, the offer will come up.
Have you ever wanted to show your talents in a theatrical production in New York City but don't want all those years of pesky acting lessons, just the thrill of being on stage? Well, now's your chance!
Two Turtles Entertainment is presenting the world premiere of the new absurd musical "My Inner Mark Berman," the comedic story of Mark Berman, sentenced to live his life in a sanitarium because another personality, the fabulous Cricket Santiago has taken over. Luckily the hospital has appointed the Rabbi psychiatrist Kishka Meldstein, assisted by Nurse Terry Sass-Poo who's gender is questionable. With original songs by Evan Laurence, this musical will prove to be a life weirding out experience! Not only do you get a walk on role, but you will also receive a gift certificate for two tickets to the show and your name will be mentioned at curtain call. The role and tickets are transferable if you would like to present a wonderful gift to a budding actor or actress. Professionals welcome as well!
Performances will Be May 3-21, 2007, 8pm Thursdays-Saturdays, 3pm matinees on Sundays.
All proceeds will be used for various theatrical costs such as costumes, tech and props.
Thank you so much for your help in our fundraising efforts. The more you bid, the more New York City will love you! This show contains strong language and gay content so if you are under 18-we're sorry! Please wait a few years and try again!

On my last posting, I introduced Cecilia Durkin, founder of Women’s Work. Cecilia and her company were featured in an article in the Poughkeepsie Journal on February 25, 2007.
The Fair Trade Federation is an organization based in Washington that promotes fair trade practices all over the world. Recently, the organization admitted Women's Work into its federation of certified fair trade merchants throughout the country.
Article excerpt from the Poughkeepsie Journal:
Most people think of necklaces, bracelets and earrings as fashion statements. Poughkeepsie resident Cecilia Dinio Durkin sees jewelry as a great way to help people in need.
Durkin owns Women’s Work, a store in Cold Spring that sells jewelry and other crafts. Many of her products are made by the impoverished San Bushmen tribe that live in a remote part of Botswana, a nation in southern Africa.
The jewelry from Botswana, as well as the other products in Durkin’s store. . .
