FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HARBORFEST RETURNS FOR SAG HARBOR'S 300th ANNIVERSARY
September 14-16, 2007

Whaleboat races, food fair, farmers’ market, walking tours and more!!!

Sag Harbor will again host its annual HarborFest Celebration this year on the weekend of September 14-16, organized by HarborFest Chairman Bryan Boyhan together with Sag Harbor's countless community organizations and valued citizens!

HarborFest, which celebrates the community’s maritime history, opens on Friday night with an old-fashioned Lobster Bake to benefit the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum, and ends on Sunday afternoon with a Clam Shucking Contest on Long Wharf to determine the "Shucker of the Year."

In between there will be dozens of events, including Whaleboat Races, a Festival Parade, a Children's Fair, a Classic Boat Regatta, Historic Walking Tours, the "Taste of Sag Harbor Food and Fare," food-related Contests, and more!

New this year will be an expanded Farmers Market on Long Wharf, which will feature fresh organic produce, clams and oysters, locally made artisinal cheeses and fresh baked goods and a new theater piece that tells the story of Sag Harbor’s remarkable 300 year history.

There will be a number of Walks and Hikes during the weekend, including through the Long Pond Greenbelt, the North Haven Loop Trail and several historic walking tours throughout the village.

The many contests will include Whaleboat Races where teams of four compete for the coveted Whalers Cup, Clam Chowder Contest and Sag Harbor's famous Clam Shucking Contest. Classic sailboat owners are invited to race with the East End Classic Boat Society in a Regatta on Saturday afternoon, and young sailors will race in the Sag Harbor Sunfish Challenge on Sunday. The festival will also host a Tug-O-War on Sunday.

Other events will include a Boat Building Demonstration, a Children’s Fair on the grounds of the Customs House, a Native American and African American Food Tasting, our "Antiques Dockshow," and antiques appraisal event similar to the Antiques Roadshow and a number of Musical Performances, including traditional Seafaring Music, Sea Chanteys, and of course the almost-50-year-old Sag Harbor Community Band!
