December 1-Gabriella M. Belfiglio was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She received a BA in poetry from Antioch College, and an MFA from American University. She is an artist, political activist and an aspiring yogini. She holds several jobs in order to keep writing a priority, including karate and self-defense for the Center for Anti-Violence Education. Her work has appeared in several journals and anthologies, among them: Folio, The Centrifugal Eye, Avanti Popoplo and the award-winning Poetic Voices without Borders. She is most-recently featured in The Dream Catcher’s Song, an anthology pre¬senting five emerging Brooklyn writers. Gabriela is joined by The Sweater Set-a singing, songwriting, harmonizing, ukulele playing duo: www.thesweaterset.com. Sara Curtin, a singer and songwriter and ukulele player, hails from the Diamond City of Washington, DC, and is a member of the singing duo. She is recording her first album.

December 8-Diana Gitesha Hernandez is a multi-media performance artist: poet and jazz singer, who often weaves music with her foundling words. She has been heard on WBAI, poetry venues throughout the City, as a member of The Barry Harris Jazz Chorus Ensemble and had her own band, Orgasmic Orchestra. Her work has appeared in Longshot, Aloud, Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Café Anthology, BE Magazine, Heal. She is the author of two chapbooks, Slingshot Luv; Love Poems from a Nuyorican Princess Dreaming of Rimbaud and Raw Lips Melao, a Nuyorican Rhapsody, and is currently working on a new book of poems along with a CD of her poetry-jazz, with pianist, John DiMartino.

Spend the Holidays with
Stages “Cinderella” at
Bay Street Theatre

Stages, A Children’s Theatre Workshop, Inc. is bringing the time-honored fairy tale classic of “Cinderella” to The Bay Street Theater just in time for the holidays. This new musical version, adapted by Jerry Leonard, with music and lyrics by Jerry Leonard and John Petrone, is directed by Helene Leonard. It features a cast of 30 young actors ages 8-20. Amanda Jones and James Benard provide the musical accompaniment.

Performances are Friday December 11th at 7:30 PM,
Saturday December 12th at 2:00PM, and
Sunday December 13th at 2:00PM.

December 15-Katrinka Moore’s book Thief was recently released by BlazeVOX [books]. She is a member of the One O’clock Poets, which published an anthology, The Full Green Hour, in 2008. Moore’s chapbook, This is Not a Story, won the New Women’s Voices prize and was published by Finishing Line Press in 2003. Maria Lisella has written two chapbooks, Amore on Hope Street (Finishing Line Press) and Two Naked Feet (Poets Wear Prada). Her poetry has appeared in NY Quarterly, Feile-Festa, Oberon, The Paterson Literary Review, Skidrow Penthouse, Liquer 44 (in French) and in the anthology, Avanti Popolo: Italian American Writers Sail Beyond Columbus. She is the Program Coordinator for the Italian American Writers Association and is co-editing an anthology based on those readings. She was a finalist in 2007 in the competition for Poet Laureate of Queens. She lives in Long Island City and is a travel editor for a national publication. Holly Anderson, poet and lyricist, can be heard on Peg Simone’s forthcoming record, Secrets from the Storm on Table of the Elements/Radium.
