April 24-David Salvage grew up in the South Bronx and developed an interest in many different cultures—particularly the stories of his friends who had emigrated from Puerto Rico and his mother, an Irish immigrant who had survived living in London during World War II. He studied writing with Grace Paley and Alan Gurganus at Sarah Lawrence College. He has finished his first novel, Dolphin Smiles, and is currently co-authoring a memoir and completing a second novel. He teaches at the NYU School of Medicine and is a practicing psychiatrist and psychoanalyst.

“The Wind in the Willows”
A Children’s Theatre Workshop, Inc., presents “The Wind in the Willows” at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor on Friday, April 27th at 7:30 PM, Saturday, April 28th at 2:00 PM and Sunday, April 29th at 2:00 PM.
“The Wind in the Willows,” based on the English children’s classic by Kenneth Grahame, follows the hilarious story of the irrepressible Mr. Toad and his delightful friends, McBadger, Rat and Mole, who attempt, unsuccessfully of course, to discourage Toad’s motor car driving mania. A madcap adventure ensues.
Stages’ full-length musical production, directed by Helene Leonard, is an original version of the script, written for television by Ms. Leonard’s late father, Jerry Leonard. The music and lyrics were written by Jerry Leonard and John Petrone with additional music by Larry Loeber.
“The Wind in the Willows” is performed by forty-four local young actors ages eight to seventeen. Amanda Jones on piano and James Benard on percussion and bass provide the musical accompaniment.

Sarah Polley, best known for her starring performances in The Sweet Hereafter, Go, and Dawn of the Dead, will appear at the Museum of the Moving Image on Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m., with a special preview screening of her acclaimed directorial debut, Away from Her, starring Julie Christie. The screening will be followed by a Pinewood Dialogue with Polley, and a reception in the Museum galleries. At 5:00 p.m. on the same day, the Museum will present a free screening of the influential 1965 film Darling, directed by John Schlesinger and starring Christie in an Academy Award-winning performance as a model fighting her way to the top. Lionsgate will release Away from Her in theaters on May 4, 2007. Away from Her, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and was featured at the Sundance and Berlin film festivals, is about a long-married couple coming to grips with the onset of memory loss. The film is a lyrical adaptation of Alice Munro’s story The Bear Came Over the Mountain. Tickets for Away from Her are $18 public/$12 Museum members. From its conception, Polley adapted Away from Her with Julie Christie in the role of a woman with Alzheimer’s disease whose 50-year marriage succumbs to the pressures of the illness. Christie’s subtle, compelling performance ranks with her best work.
