January 5-Patricia Carragon has been published in Rogue Scholars, Poets Wear Prada, CLWN, Chanterelle’s Notebook, Clockwise Cat Tamarind, Riverfront, Soul Mountain and countless other journals and magazines. She is the author of Journey to the Center of my Mind, published by Rogue Scholars Press. She hosts and curates the Brooklyn-based Brownstone Poets at Café Sultra in Park Slope, and The Fall Café in Carroll Gardens, and she is the editor of the Annual Brownstone Poets Anthology.

January 13-Diane Goettel, Managing Editor of Black Lawrence Press and Editor of The Adirondack Review, will give a talk about how to get published in literary magazines and journals, and how to get the attention of small presses. Diane is an adjunct professor at Touro College, and leads creative writing workshops for New York City Writers Coalition. She is a regular contributor to A & U: America’s AIDS Magazine, and her work has been published in 42 Opus, failbetter and Lichen.
January 20 -Emily Moore’s poetry has appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Poetry Daily, Ploughshares, The Yale Review and The 6th Edition of Poetry: A Pocket Anthology edited by R.S. Gwynn. When she isn’t writing or teaching public high school English, she’s singing songs about love and real estate with her all-female, country camp trio, Ménage a Twang, www.myspace.com/menageatwang. She will be reading with Jessica Reed, whose poetry has appeared in The Paris Review, Tin House, LIT, The Huffington Post, the anthology, Satellite Convulsions: Poems from Tin House, and is forthcoming in Zeek: A Journal of Jewish Thought and Culture. She is the 2007 recipient of the Marie Ponsot Poetry Prize and the Jerome Lowell Dejur Award. Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, she now lives in New York City, where she spends M-F, 9-5, as a technical writer/editor, and where she received her MFA from The City College of the City University of New York.

Family Dinner feauturing- The Charismatic Megafaunas

(Every 2 weeks at 6:30pm on Wednesday)

The Charistmatic Megaphonic String Orchestra is an old-time string band with a modern twist. Its members are Park Slope's own Bilger family--Burkhard Bilger on guitar, Jennifer Nelson on violin and accordion, Hans Bilger (13) on stand-up bass, and Ruby Bilger (10) on vocals and percussion. Their friend and spiritual leader Michael Abrams plays ukulele and the youngest Bilger--Evangeline (5)--occasionally joins in on songs about chickens. The band plays an uproarious mixture of folk songs, novelties tunes, and rock-and-roll classics, filtered through their own sweet but slightly skewed sensibilities.
