New York, February 9, 2012—Seven women dressed in white walk in a circle in the sand, sweeping away their footprints. A young boy attempts to cut a stream of water with scissors. A crowd of Albanian demonstrators march through the streets holding mirrors instead of signs. These are some of the simple yet evocative images created by Romanian-born artist Mircea Cantor (b. 1977), a recent recipient of the prestigious Marcel Duchamp Prize.
From March 3 through May 6, 2012, Museum of the Moving Image and the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York will present an exhibition of video installations, short films, and other works by Cantor. Although Cantor is widely acclaimed throughout Europe, and has had works shown at The Museum of Modern Art, this will be his first solo museum exhibition in New York City.
